October 2024 updates

New Bench Saw Purchased

The Shed has now purchased, with help from funding, a new bench saw which is more substantial. It will allow members to accurately cut timber.

With its enhanced capabilities, members will now be able to cut timber with far greater accuracy and efficiency, making it easier to undertake more complex woodworking projects. The increased stability and precision of the bench saw will also improve safety for users, allowing them to work on various materials and dimensions with confidence. This investment is a valuable addition to our workshop, ensuring that members have access to high-quality tools that can meet the demands of their creative and practical projects.

New Decking Area

The new decking area has been successfully completed, providing an additional outdoor workspace for members to utilise. This versatile space offers the opportunity to work on projects in the fresh air, taking advantage of natural light, and enjoying the outdoor environment. While it is designed for use during good weather, it significantly extends the workshop's capacity by offering more room for larger or messier tasks that benefit from an open-air setting.

The deck is a welcome enhancement to our facilities, giving members more flexibility and comfort as they engage in their projects. It also serves as a social area where members can relax, collaborate, or discuss ideas in a more open and informal setting.

Charity Wishing Well

One of our talented members has recently constructed a beautiful charity wishing well for Asda supermarket, which is now proudly displayed in one of its branches. This handcrafted piece not only showcases the member's skill and creativity but also serves a meaningful purpose by encouraging donations from customers.

The wishing well acts as a focal point within the store, inviting people to contribute spare change toward local charitable causes. Its placement in such a high-traffic area provides a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and funds for important community initiatives. The collaboration between our Shed and Asda highlights the value of community involvement, with the wishing well standing as a symbol of generosity and craftsmanship.

Additional Workspace

We are proud to have recently completed the construction of an additional building for extra workspace and storage.

Our members worked together, sourcing the timber from local suppliers to support the local community. We would like to welcome new members to join us and become part of our community.

We are now currently constructing an extension to this building for even more workspace and to house extra machines.

New Equipment

We have also recently purchased a Thicknesser/Planer with the help of Council and other support grants.
